Universal Access Programs

People of all abilities can enjoy the outdoors together, with Universal Access Program (UAP) activities like ice skating, snowshoeing, kayaking, hiking, and cycling!

Cycling

Take a spin on a beautiful rail trail! We have cycles for riders of all ages and all abilities, including: handcycles, wheelchair tandems, recumbent trikes, and tandem recumbent trikes. Call or email in advance to reserve a 1 - 1.5 hour timeslot.

Fees

  • $5 per person.
  • Cyclists with a disability may bring a guest for no additional charge

Paddling

Get out on the water in a single or tandem kayak or canoe! We can assist with transfers, balance support, and adaptations for grip and paddle control. We paddle in small groups at our programs with instruction and all equipment provided.

Snowshoeing and More

Programs take place in DAR State Forest, Dunn State Park, and Wendell State Forest. Beyond snowshoeing, we have kicksledding, cross-country skiing, and winter hiking, depending on conditions

Fees

  • There is no fee for winter programs.
  • Donations are welcome, and help keep our programs going!
  • A friend or caregiver may also join at no charge.

Indoor Ice Skating

Skaters of all ages and abilities are welcome to join us for indoor ice skating! You can participate with stand skates (bring your own or rent from the rink), a sled skate, in your own wheelchair, or with ice grippers on your shoes so you can walk on the ice. All equipment and skating instruction and support provided.

All skaters who are using balancing aids or who need assistance to stand skate wear helmets; they're encouraged for all. Participation is by donation.

  • You must r egister for the program you'd like to attend.  You can do this by emailing or calling us.

  • Each person with a disability can bring one family member, friend, or caregiver at no charge. If a person with a disability needs two caregivers to participate, then that person can bring two caregivers at no charge.
  • Every participant in our programs, including family members and personal care assistants, will need to fill out a liability waiver.
