2007 Kayak-a-thon
On a misty Sunday morning - September 10, 2007 - nearly 40 people
kayaked down the Connecticut River. 20 people, including All Out
Adventures participants, staff, volunteers, and a board member launched
kayaks in Sunderland for the 11 mile journey to Northampton. Rounding
the bend in Hatfield, we were greeted by cheers and another 20 people
eagerly waiting to join us for the second half of the trip. When we
launched in Hatfield, a flotilla of nearly 40 people paddled their way
to Northampton.
It was a special day that brought together people from across the state
- from the Boston area to the Berkshires - for the cause of increasing
awareness and access to outdoor recreation for people with
disabilities. Some of our paddlers used wheelchairs to get to the boat
ramp. Others, with cognitive disabilities, were supported in their
paddling by their families and by AOA staff and volunteers.
The day was extremely successful, and we are looking to this year's event!
